I'm trying to swap frames, I've got a 82 Maxim 750. I would like to know what other Yamaha' s I can swap with.

You can install the 750 Maxim engine into a short list of XJ's if you attend to some variations in the mounts and other issues, I think this is in Chacal's "Information Overload" section.

    Seca/Maxim 650
    Seca/Maxim 750
Seca 900 (but that would be a sin)
Possibly the 700 and the TURBO bike too, with more electrical work.

Retain your carbs and ignition components.

He's not doing an engine swap....he needs to replace the frame. That means he has to stay with the same frame so the rest of the parts bolt back on correctly and in place.

Well, in a manner of speaking he is doing an engine swap, just in reverse.

No, it's a frame swap. I've done it enough times.

If I go with your logic, then he's replacing a side panel.

C'mon.....he said right at the start, he's trying to swap a frame, and simply needed to know what other frames would work.

I guess, of course, that if he neglected to say that he was planning to do a lot of special welding, cutting, fitting, customizing, etc....... then we could say use any frame you want, with any engine you want, with any parts you want; But it's a simple matter......he needs to use the same type of frame to do a frame swap.

I know, but since he is apparently open to frames from different machines, it is a safe assumption that he would be prepared to replace other components, thus the information relative to an engine swap is relevant.

Well I guess we shall find out eventually..... I was reading the question to be "are there other bikes that used the same frame"

Chiming in when I probably shouldn't, but for sure, the syntax of the op's post does suggest that he wants to swap all or most of the components from one XJ750 frame to another.

    IMHO.

You say potâto, and I say potāto
You say tomâto, and I say tomāto

Obviously your interpretation would be the safer assumption.

Thanks gentlemen for your responses. Just the frame at this point. Would like to bolt my stuff on. No cutting, welding or other fabrication.

    Hog is right !

Now your only choice is the 1983 bike with the "nicer" headlight-gauge-bars, or the '81-'82 bike with the "Disco" look.

    Or The Midnight !
