so 3 years down the line i plan to finish what i started . so i took 3 weeks off work picked up an 82 750 maxim . 976670_582792668418264_2066664461_o.jpg
so this is the 650 before being chopped sporting the custom pipes i built

rear fender mocked up looking good it was getting there

then through a series of unfortunate events unfolded kicked out the house, new job, life caught up and the maxim sat for 3 years never moved an inch ! so i bought a vfr400 it was a wreck ,ended up trading it for a zxr750 again a wreck then someone asked if i wanted to swap it for an 82 xj750 i said yes happy days so this is the 750 13672336_1184271841603674_25386682_n.jpg
through my pipes on it to find a whole in the frame unrepairable
so 12 days to go let the decent into madness begin!

Are you interested in hearing about a way to almost guarentee that you won't need to pull the engine again? It requires a fair amount of work, and a bottom-end gasket kit, but in my opinion is worth doing.

While it's out split the cases. You will not need to mess with the top end.
Replace the alternator chain guide (use heat to help get the retaining bolts out), and the starter clutch rollers and springs. The chain guide fails from age, and the starter clutch has a tendency to wear and slip eventually, so replacing both now will save you a lot of time later. I reccomend using Locktite 515 or 518 to reseal the crankcases, along with a new lower-end gasket set from Chacal.
