1983 maxim 650

    :twisted: hey everyone i have a 1983 maxim 650 and need to do some repairs first i need the torque specs for head bolts if any one could help it would be great

    Welcome and what ^ said. Post your bike in your signature. Which "head" bolts? Are you referring to the CAP NUTS, VALVE COVER bolts w/washers (donuts)? Not being a smart-@ss just need to be more specific.

    If you're talking about the VALVE COVER bolts, DON'T. It's a YICS motor and they don't tighten beyond stopped, at 7.2 ft/lbs. The bolts have stop collars on them to prevent overtightening.

    If you really mean HEAD bolts, then get a manual. There's a bit more to it than you might think.

    If your valve cover gasket is leaking, you need a new gasket and new composite metal/rubber "donuts" on the bolts. The "donuts" are what actually push the cover against its gasket, because of the stop collars on the bolts. You can't just tighten up the bolts.
