As stated 1985 Maxim X sitting for the last 14 years. 11523 miles. I don't think the vacuum flow control on the petcock is working. How can I test the vacuum to see if that is the problem. I took it all apart, the fuel valve assembly and think it is OK. If I suck on the vacuum port to the valve something happens inside. The engine has run a little during my testing but only a few seconds. I think with good fuel flow the engine will run. A folow up shows the fuel control set to Reserve does not need the vacuum? Can someone verify this.

OK the Pri output will flow air for a while after I suck hard on the vacuum port. Where is the best place to buy a Anemometer for balancing the Carbs? The fuel tank low sensor leaks so that has to be fixed before more testing can be done.

If you put the fuel valve on PRI you don't need any vacuum, it will work with gravity.

Thank you quebecois59 I had found that out. I am still leaking around the tank level sensor and I think It will run tomorrow.
Then on to the front brakes.

    Rebuild the petcock.

Fix the tank leak. Hot engines and leaking fuel will get you a trip to the hospital.

Check valve clearances before you run it.

I agree with k-moe...if that bike has been sitting for 14 yrs....that petcock definitely needs rebuilding & the tank gasket around the gas level sending unit needs replaced also.......

These are a must if you don't want to be a fireball zooming down the highway......

Advice..."Wise men don't need it, & fools won't heed it"

Fuel tank vent clogged? Does gas flow with cap open?

The problem that caused me to stop riding was fuel tank vent, Which is through the lid key hole, got clogged and the bike would die sometimes at about 60mph. It took a while to find it and trust was gone in the machine.
