Just did a quick US Post search. 39390 is not a valid US zip code...

I believe that 39390 is a reference to the Knights of Templars secret treasures. Take note of where you are when your odometer reading comes up at 39,390.

    The S JD part is still a mystery. . . .

So if you went to change the battery does it really matter what the numbers are?
WGAF? Buy a new battery if the old one is shagged.
Working on it for two years? Jeez.

2 years is nothing....4 years on my xj700X project, and still counting. 10 years on my 650 (though I was riding it the whole time, too) and it went from a rust bucket to a 2nd Place trophy...........

Mike, your best bet for trying to find any history of that bike is to talk to whoever you got it from and see what they know.... Or see if you Motor Vehicle department can run a search on the VIN.

If you KNOW it came from the USA, maybe someone here could run the number. It does cost to do that, at least in NY, and it would mean giving someone your number.... But it's a thought.

I think the 39390 was probably either just some previous owners scratching to ID the bike in the event of theft, or just an inventory number for someone....

Obviously, that number had nothing to do with the battery, but it's a cool little aside to have found!! It just helps make yours a little more unique for YOU!

Now one quick question: is it scratched in, engraved in, stamped in, or molded in?

hi dave, the numbers are engraved inside both red side panels, the bike came from a mate who moved house, in his house sale was the xj700 two dirt bikes etc,the old house owner already moved away.
    thanks mike

If you think England is bass-ackward, you should see how it goes in Quebec! Just kidding, my Franco neighbors! I enjoy the french culture (and women:D).

No, smokin' hot and much more fashionable than in my neck of the woods. Montreal is most excellent, Quebec City is like a slice of old Europe. If you want an amazing trip, ride to Quebec City. Nothing like it in N.America!
I didn't wanna go with the obvious, but who's had La Belle Province's poutine at 2am with cold Canadian beer while surrounded by girls that are cool and hot at the same time? THAT'S culture! But they are crazy, and the language is backwards!

Well I did hear that the stone slab they found in Kennsington on Olaf's farm had engravings on it and there were a few that looked like XJ . . . . of course controversy abounds in the translations. But one of the interprations I took from it was; before you start tearing you engine/ carbs apart on an XJ, make sure your valve clearances are spot on {sic - within manufacturers specifications}.

Now on to a even stranger coincidence if you go to this page and scroll down to item # 39383 you will see a Templar Knight figurine. http://www.hotalinginc.com/ht/list/index.cfm?MC=1&C=43&SC=0&pg=home&titlepage=Papo&l_pag=241
Continue to scroll to the Red Draped Horse and note that it's catalog number is - Yep #39390.
I know, I know, your going to say "but Stump, the horse has fluer de-lis decorations". And the reply is , of course it does. The Templars keep everything shrouded in an air of mystery, always trying to throw the pursuers of the Grail off course. But now ask yourself this, why is the horse so near to the Knight Figurine and more importantly why is the horse draped in red?

Denbola, what color are your side covers???
Gentlemen, I present to you Denbola's Red Draped Mechanical Horse that just so happens to have the same number enscribed upon it that coincides with the Red Draped Horse near the Knights of Templar figurine!!!!!!

All that I can say now is that if you don't hear from me in the next couple of days then "they" have tracked me down for knowing too much . . . . Good bye my friends and God speed! And no matter what the outcome - make sure your valves are in-spec!

Good thing this one's in the hangout lounge, or I'd feel bad about this fun little side-track!

PS this is supposed to be humor. Nobody died. Ever.

Yea, sorry about that side track.
On Saturday we were looking at properties along the Mississippi valley corridor. Got home very late Saturday night after 14 + hours of cruising around. Being an old guy I don't sleep past 06:00 - woke Sunday morning - obviously sleep deprived and went on a K of T tangent. . . .

Or maybe, just maybe, 30 yrs ago the original owner sat down with his friends one day and said "Hey guys, I'm going to engrave some numbers on the inside of these panels, and years from now it's going to drive someone 'round the bend wondering what they mean"! o_O o_O

Grammar police: Quebec City is not like Quebec City, it is Quebec City. Therefore, there is nothing like it in N. America. But your geography is still good!
