    Forgive me for asking this question as I am new to this website. Try as I might, I cannot locate any information regarding the HP of a 1985 Yamaha XJ700 Maxim. I have ordered a shop manual (online CD version off of ebay) but I'm not sure if they will provide this info on the disk. :?:

    Welcome aboard Samtidor;
    I checked the haynes manual and the xjcd and I can't find a HP rating.
    Sorry.
    Someone will have the answer for you I'm sure.
    Be sure to post some pics of your ride.

    Welcome. Feel free to post pics of your ride in our Photo Gallery. I'm especially interested in seing your handlebar shot and the mirror perch setup :wink:

    I would think HP would be close to the 750 engine. HP specs are shown here: http://bikez.com/motorcycles/yamaha_xj_750_s_1985.php

    Thanks for the replies and link. I will post some photos once the weather clears a bit up here in the Pacific Northwest. I'll be able to present a more formal intro then. As for now, the latest addition to our family is sitting in the garage just waiting to be ridden.

    Maxim X 750 was rated at 86 hp, so yours is probably a couple down from that, high 70's perhaps.

    SnoSheriff...

    Did samtidor do something special with his mirror perch setup or are you just looking for some pics of the 85' 700 X mirror perch setup...

    I'm just looking for compatible 90 degree perch controls. My old controls point the mirrors inward on straight handle bars so I can't see the traffic behind me 8O :cry:. I see you got Maxim X. Can you post some pics of your handle bar controls? I'm guessing you have dual disk front brakes?

    Looks like 90's to me - they should work.

    Yep :D. I'm trying to avoid the single disk bikes as mine has 2 disk brake.

    Are you sure that is not an X? The controls and instruments look the exact same as mine! (85 Maxim X - 700)

    I believe the bHP rating for an air cooled xj700 is 76 hp and 63 ft ibs of torque
