ok, the bike cranks right up and runs. sounds good, very responsive, but, only the 2 right headers are hot, and the other 2 you can hold with your hand. i am going to pull the plugs on the non working side to see if they may have closed on me. but what else could it be?

Those cylinders are not firing - If you rode it yo would find very little power.

Always go for the basics - Spark fuel and air. Try swapping plugs from 1 and 2 to 3 and 4 and see if they fire. If not check for fuel. Have you cleaned the carbs well?

when bike runs, i pull the cold sides 1 plug, and the bike stalls. also the cold side is much leaner by looking at the plugs.

try this...pull the air/fuel mixture screws (little brass ones in front of the carb, but still on the carb). shoot some carb cleaner down in there and reset your mixture to about 2.5 turns out from bottom. If that doesn't work, I think you have a cleaning issue on your hands. I've noticed (and it makes sense) that when a bike is stored for a period of time on it's side stand, the left hand carbs seem to gunk faster because of the angle of the bike. What type of xj do you have?

If you have spark, +1 with mcrw... I had a similar problem, but it was just adjustment of the screws instead of cleaning.

its a 550. but its on a atv chassi. the carbs came off someone elses bike.....550, but they were just shipped to me, and all i did was clean the bowls. today i tried a compression test, but the tester must have a automobile threaded fitting on it, cause its too big. so.......i am still pondering here. thanks for your response everyone.

If the carbs came from another bike, you will definitely have to adjust the mixture screws. I did the same thing with swapping carbs, and the adjustment screws had to be... well... adjusted for their new home.

I have to agree if you have spark - fuel is next - probably the adjustment
