My 550 Seca lights the red light on the instrument panel when it's in neutral. I'm pretty sure that's supposed to be the oil warning light , not the neutral light.

Given the amount of goofy stuff I found so far, I'm sure the wiring is just reversed somewhere. Question is, should I be looking inside the instrument panel, or elsewhere on the bike. Perhaps at the bottom of the crankcase somewhere?

Thanks, Fitz. That's what I kinda figured.

BTW, did you see I actually got it to idle now?

Sure did, congrats. Once you get it sync'ed up it should smooth right out.

You need to be carefull. MAS (Mass Aquisition Sydrome) is a contagious disease around here, and you are starting to show the signs of contracting it.

3 bikes in 1 year. And I thought I was getting carried away.

OK, so I checked the cluster.

The lights are plugged in where they are supposed to, at the correct markings. Also, judging by dirt and fasteners the cluster has not been opened.

I think the plugs are switched at the sensors. Where are they?

    >I can stop anytime I want

Yeah...........so can I. It doesn't affect me at all. I am a carrier, and there's no outward symptoms.

Oh, by the way.........I just sealed an agreement with a neighbor for the purchase of his '86 Venture Royale 1300.

Very close to each other. The neutral switch is tucked in right next to where the shift lever goes in, and the oil switch sits on the bottom of the sump just a few inches away. I think a PO would have done some 'hacking' to reverse them there, I know the oil switch has a long cable that comes off it, think the neutral is the same.

When you checked your cluster did you just check the wires in the headlight bucket or did you also check to make sure the right wire/bulb is in the right hole for your indicators?

Can you really stop anytime you want? I think we're going to have to take you to a M.A. meeting. First step admit you have a problem.

More likely that the sensor leads are switched where they plug into the wiring harness. Chase the wires backward from the sensors back to the harness connections somewhere around the back of the airbox.

    Tried that just now.

Didn't see any connectors that looked mismatched. Did find one that has the ends plugged into each other. I think that might be the kickstand safety switch that was bypassed.

Also found that the battery cover was attached by two very stripped Philips screws. Swapped them out for Allen screws.

Unplug the bulbs, in their rubber sockets, from the back of the inner cluster and swap positions.

The neutral switch is located behind the front sprocket cover on the LH side of the bike, on the inner case and just forward of the front sprocket.

The oil level switch is located on the very bottom of the sump (on the bottom of the motor; you can't see it with the exhaust collector box in the way.)

Easier to just move the bulbs.

    Figured it out.

Traced the wire form the sender to under that little tray under the seat where the ignition box is bolted. There are multiple plugs there, but only two bullet connectors.

Swapped them, and voila, the neutral light works as the neutral light.
