Sorry if there are some stupid questions here, but I know nothing about hydraulic brakes. I recently installed new front brake pads (had to push the piston back in a little to make them fit) and now my brake lever is feeling really mushy (comes all the way in to the handlebar) and I don't seem to be able to stop as quick as before. I topped off the brake fluid which didn't help much but I did notice the old fluid in there looks disgusting and probably hasn't been changed in a long time, so I would like to flush and bleed the brake to get it working well again, probably also run some steel lines while I'm at it. Can anyone give me some basic instruction on how to do this? I've never really messed with hydro brakes at all before

I strongly recommend going to xj4ever and getting a master cylinder rebuild kit, caliper rebuild kit, and some stainless steel braided brake lines. Get it bled out and you'll be good to go for many miles. If you experience troubles bleeding, member kmoe has some really good tips. If I knew how to link to a thread where he shares those I would. Hopefully he will chime in at some point. Also check out the how to instructions section and you should find some helpful threads to get you through your brake system overhaul.
