i am new to bike repairs so bear with me.. the turn signals are not working at all. A general question would be "where do I start? concerning the big jumble of electrical components on the bike.. I realize that my headlight does not turn on until the engine has turned over (this is suppose to happen correct?), so is the running lights suppose to come on also when the engine is running or should they turn on automatically when the key is turned? or not come on until signaled by the switch when driving down the road? I know the 10 amp fuse is good because of a light tester when applied there. When I checked for juice up near the switch, there wasn't anything coming though. I'm not sure where to begin searching for a faulty place in the tiny wiring mess throughout the bike..

Also, my exhaust and headpipes are currently not on the bike.. is it fine to run the bike (on the center stand) without my exhaust system? random question but wasn't sure if it was good on the engine without the back pressure of the exhaust system

The turn signals are normally turn signals only, not running lights. They can be engaged once the ignition is on, without the engine running.

The 12V supply to them goes through the flasher relay, which is located under the tank on the bottom of the frame. 12V is supplied to the Br connection when the ignition is on, and is flashed by the relay when the turn signals are engaged at the handlebar switch. However, starting the flasher relay flashing also requires the canceller unit to be enabled, which removes the 12V from the Y/G wire of the flasher.

If your turn signals don't light at all, on either side, when the handlebar switch is pushed that way and the ignition is on, it could be a bad flasher, a bad canceller, a bad handlebar switch, bad wiring going between any of these, or a bad fuse/fusebox.

The fusebox is the one thing you can check without a meter. If your tail lights work, then the problem is not the fuse or fusebox. If your tail lights don't work then the problem IS your fuse or fusebox.

guess it pays to thoroughly check all the wiring...found the faulty in the hand control. somehow all three soldered connections were broke off inside the left hand control. quick heat and some flux, and five minutes later my signals were blinking! thanks guys for all the knowledge though! idk what i'd do w/out this site!
