I just received the xj550 gas tank I bought and this thing looks massive. Is there anyway to tell the difference between the 550 and the 650 apart?

    I tried looking for a serial # but i couldn't find one.

I am excited to mount this on a 650 maxim frame!

It looks like a 550 tank to me.

But it is larger than a 650 and yet will still mount on a 650 . . . yes?

I have this fantasy of putting one on mine for the larger capacity . . . but then again, I really like the 'stock' look also . . . however my bike is far from being a show piece so maybe a little cog jobblin would be alright . . . .

Are we talking Seca 650 or Maxim 650?

The Seca 550 tank has the same fuel capacity as the 650 Maxim tank. The 650 Seca tank has a larger fuel capacity.

I'm pretty sure that the 550 Seca tank is longer than either 650 tank, and therefore will not fit without fabrication work.

    Woohooo 550! I was hoping it was a 650 :(

That post helps a lot. Thanks for posting it.

I was debating of moving the "C" shape brackets on the tank back 1/4" or do what ribo did with the wooden dowels making the tank channel wider. To mount the rear i might try to fab a spacer or... just cut the rear mount and slide it back 1/4".

I want easy as possible since i just finished and painted my frame.
