I haven't been here for quite a while, so "Hello again!"

I have several SlipStreamer windshields and a couple different hardware setups from different bikes. All will fit the square headlight but nothing seems to line up right with the modular aluminum bars of the '82 Maxim. I had thought to drill and mount the support clamps directly to the flat bars but the angles just don't work.

I've seen square bar adapters mentioned in several older thread/posts but I can't find the required hardware via Slipstreamer's web site.

Does anyone know where I can find the adapters or have any ideas for mounting a Hell Fire, Spit Fire or the original SlipStreamer to the Maxim bars?

    Thanks,
    Rich

My first thought is to get the bar clamps from a Seca and swap them over (the maxim indexable bar brackets unbolt from the top yoke) so you can swap over to round bars. My second thought is to make (or have made) square clamps that the spitfire mounting brackets can be bolted to. I would make them out of 1" wide flat bar (either aluminum or steel) and have them be of a split construction (each half bolts to the other half, with the spitfire mount used in place of one bolt). You can pad the clamp with a bit of innertube, or neoprene sheet cut to size and glued to the inside of the clamps.

Have you tried calling Slipstreamer to see if they still have the square bar adapters on the shelf even though they are not offering them on their website?

    Edit: found it. http://slipstreamer.com/hardware/square-bar-adapter-hardware/
They screw into the mirrror mounts, and then the mirrors screw ino the adapters. I'm not sure if the Spitfire mounting bars will be long enough to reach these mounts though.

Thanks k-moe! I swear those were not on the SS website earlier todayo_O!

The Spitfire bars are definitely too short to use with them but the longer compound angle bars from the SlipStreamer shield might do the trick.

The square bar adapters finally arrived and I was able to install the SpitFire wind screen with the Slipstreamer hardware.

I like the look and it is stable but it's just a bit too small to be any help at highway speeds. It's nice up to 50-55 but at 70 it might as well not be installed.

The Slipstreamer is way too big for this bike. I may try to cut it down to fit the Maxim as I have no other use for it.

Just goes to show how much one rider varies from another. The Spitfire works great for me on my Seca, aside from a bit of helmet buffeting at 60 and above. If it were just 4" taller...

My son had this mounted on the Seca and loved it. I had the Hell Fire on the Seca before I gave it to him and it was perfect for me. I think the Hell Fire would be perfect for the Maxim as well, unfortunately it's in unusable condition after The boy had his encounter with gravel in an intersection. He was fine but the polycarbonate did not survive.
