I bought this '82 maxim a week or two a go, it had been sitting over winter and hadn't been run much this year. It's got less than 32,000k. I am very pleased with my new bike and how comfortable it is and, compared to my old cm400 how crazy fast it accelerates, and goes! I have a couple of questions if anyone cares to share; It wont idle. Starts fine, runs superbly at all rpm, but if i leave off the throttle it wont even try to keep lit. I can hold it at 1,000 easily but it just wont stay up on its own. I thought may be grungy carbs, but performance is not affected anywhere else. I've put over 300kms on and not better, no worse. Any guesses?
My "warning" light comes on everytime the bike starts and flashes until I press the "warning control" button an couple of times. My dash shows, the "BATT" bar lit up, but I don't have any trouble starting the bike. ??
Can I use my auxillary light at night on the highway? do I need to shut it of for comfort and safty of oncoming traffic?
    Thanx,
    Ben

The idle speed of that bike is 1050. If you can hold it a 1000 then I would reach to the back and underside of the carbs where you will find a small flower shaped wheel. Turn that clockwise to raise the idle speed.

Sounds like my beastie. I have gone through my carbs and synced them, and the bike does idle better, although it wants a lot of warmup to do it.

As for the Batt indicator, you may or may not have a sensor plugged into one of the cells on your battery. If it's not there, don't sweat it. I have the same issue, but only because the battery I have won't let me install said sensor.
