'82 XJ 550 Seca Oil Light Question

    Hi All,
    As I was riding into work this morning my oil light briefly came on. It was about 06:30am about 9C (48.2 Fahrenheit) and foggy. I hit a fog patch, the oil light comes on and then goes off about 30 seconds after leaving the fog patch. This is the first time it's happened.

    I checked the oil tonight and it is about 3/4 of the way up the glass bubble.

    Any ideas as to why the oil light came on?

    Were you traveling uphill?

    Ideally the oil level will be at the top of the sightglass with just a tiny bubble showing.

    Possible loose bullet connection from oil level sending unit to harness and or damaged oil sump gasket leaking oil on said connection?

    Accelerating from a stop with oil at the midline of the sight glass can lead to the oil light coming on momentarily. It's nothing to worry about.
