i just got this bike back together and went to push it to my front yard to wash it and the back tire kept grabbing like a tooth was broken in the gears somewhere. I went to start it and found that it died as soon as i let the clutch out. neutral works and the neutral light works. if i rev it up a bit and give it a lot of gas it goes, but then inside the drive shaft where the u joint is, it rattles and smokes.
the u-joint as i recall was not perfect. like it had been bent before. so i straightened it and it seemed fine until i pushed it that last time.
    any help would be appreciated.
    thanks.

    Clarify a detail for us:

When you let the Clutch OUT ...

    HOW does the Bike die?

Is the Ignition Cut-Off and the Bike stalls-out?
    -Or-
A Mechanical problem causes the Driveline to lock-up?

do you mean the drive SHAFT was bent? You'll have to drop the swing arm & final drive, post some pictures.

I thought it was electronic at first, but it is definitely mechanical. when i do spin up the rear tire in first with the center stand down, the shaft clunks, and smoke comes from the u joint boot.
I am talking about the ujoint. it was not perfect. it looked like it had been installed wrong, or the bike had been wrecked or something. but i hammered on one side and it straightened out and spun fine. So I put it back together, and had no problems until I tried to push it.
I have a complete other drive shaft and rear end, but only one ujoint.
I guess i will remove the ujoint and rear shaft and see whats up.

    OK.
Get the Signature Thumbs Info we need added to your account.

    Year ... Model ... Miles ...

No matter which Model you have ... You need everything from the the Ouput Shaft Seal, U-Joint, Shaft and Final to be FREE of defects or it could lead to having a REAL Bad day.

The U-Joint was used on several Models

    Get a Manual.
If there was smoke coming from the U-Joint Boot ... you might need a Bearing and a Seal, too.

Yikes, attempting to ride the bike with a "banged-back-straight" driveline could end you up in a world of trouble. Driveshafts on any vehicles are precision machined and balanced items. I've seen shafts on ebay before, that might not be a terrible way to go, or of course Chacal could probably hook you up.

Thanks for the advice. Just to clear it up. drive shaft is thick solid steel, couldn't be "banged" if i wanted to. I am talking about the u joint. regular ujoint just like on any rear wheel drive car.
I have a all kinds of manuals for it.
