    I am finishing up resurrecting a 82 XJ650 Seca from the dead. All I have left is to find a mirror to replace the one I dropped from the bench.
    My question is where the mirrors from the factory round or square?
    The one I broke the glass mirror was 4.335 inches in diameter, 10mm right hand threads and is painted black.
    Tuesday I went to Sport Wheels a motorcycle junk yard in Jordan MN, looked through a bin of at least 10,000 mirrors, none matched the broken mirror. The stems where not the same as I have, shorter, longer, different bends.
    I took the mirror to a local glass vendor and was quoted $50 for the mirror, I install the glass in the plastic myself. I passed for now.

    The bike last ran in 2001, when a chunk of the starter/alternator chain guide jammed the shift drum. Split the cases and replaced the guide. I have started the bike and rode it a couple of miles, seems to ride okay. I want it as a survivor, it is pretty nice for spending the last decade under a pile of junk.

    rectangular

    buy them from member chacal www.xj4ever.com or his link here
    XJ4Ever - Supporting Vendor
    if your stem is good you can save some cash buying 19.95 and swapping the mirror head.
    also has black if you like midnight maxim mirrors
    from his catalog link

    NOTE: The 1982 XJ650RJ Seca models used the same chrome, rectangular mirror head as these mirror listed below, but used a different "stem" or stalk, which was a bit taller (about 1.5" more) and had a slightly greater bend angle than these mirrors. The head unit may be unscrewed, as original, for all of these replacement mirror units below and used directly with an original XJ650RJ Seca mirror stalk.

    or for the seca
    HCP17787 Aftermarket left side original-design CHROME RECTANGULAR MIRROR, correct for all XJ650RJ Seca models. NOTE: these mirrors can also be used on all XJ550 models, XJ650 Maxim models, and XJ1100 models, but they have the slightly taller (about 1/2") and further outward (about 1") reach compared to the originals. Same rectangular head, but can be a good substitute on these models with flatter-than stock handlebars or for a "wider" look behind (or for bigger riders who just end up staring at their shoulders with the stock mirrors!). Very nice quality, good chrome finish.
    $ 39.95

    You wouldn't put glass in the plastic.....(unless you meant the super-thin black edging material right around the glass). The correct mirrors for your bike are rectangular metal mirrors.

    Thanks the round mirror must be some aftermarket. But I sure do like the looks of the round mirrors.

    $40 a mirror? Maybe for a show bike that has to be perfect...but for a rider, that's insane.

    thats because his mirror is special to his model (seca) with its longer stem but in the end it is not what he wants
