Hello, the other day I went to start my maxim on a slope and it back fired through the carbs and was putting out a grayish white smoke. The smoke was coming from my air-box if that helps. After this happened I found that the bike didn't want to start and when it did it wouldn't idle. Seeing as I had these problems I put the bike up and haven't touched it yet.

I was wondering if I should be concerned about this and what might have been damaged, or if I'm just worried for nothing.

You flooded the carbs and airbox that's all. Just in case a float got stuck, though, opens the oil filler cap and take a sniff. Smell just like old oil? Good. Smell like gas? Drain it and replace the thinned out oil. Otherwise you'll overheat or blowup ....... Or both.
