I have recently aquired a good running '82 xj750 maxim. It has 37k on the clock and I have been slowly going through it bringing it back to it's former glory. That being said, the H plenum of the exhaust gave up the ghost today! I have found an '82 xj650 maxim in decent condition for $400 bucks and I was considering buying it for parts. My question is, what would be transferable and would it be worth the money? Specifically the exhaust? It looks like the 650 doesn't have the H section? Is that right? Does it have to be there on the 750? I'd like to avoid a rejet it possible so I'm looking for an OEM setup for replacement. Help a brotha out!

Try this out, (see the pics that follow). I am, pretty soon due to the baffles rattling when i first start her up. A good muffler shop should be able to fabricate it with no problem. And you shouldn't have to retune her that much as long as you keep the diameters of the incoming and out going pipes the same size as the stock one. Make shore they do it with stainless so it will last forever.

You can probably find an exact replacement on eBay without too much difficulty. Removal of the collector box will affect tuning, to what degree I can't say.

I'm not sure what you're looking to spend, but I've had great dealings with these folks:
