So I wanted to adjust my idle, and moved the idle screw. The bike died and I was unable to restart it. Next day I opened the choke and it started, when choke was released the bike died again and would not start up. I tried adjusting the idle scre in both directions, now it wont even start with the choke. Please help.

    Thanks in Advance

    Hmmm.

Has the bike ever had its valves adjusted or its carbs serviced?

I ask because if ignored, an XJ will run fine right up until the day it won't anymore. Might just be the day...

Valve clearances were due at 3000 miles and every 5000 thereafter. Carb service at the minimum, every 10K. Where are we on maintenance?
