If it's got one it will be an aftermarket in-line filter between the petcock and the carbs, should be directly below the tank, visible from the side.
If it doesn't have one I highly recommend installing one. I picked up a filter for a garden tractor at advance auto for three bucks. Pick up a couple because after you do the tank you'll want to change it after a few miles.
Had to change mine three times after I did my tank.

There is a fine screen inside the tank that will trap the bigger stuff, but it won't get the real fine particles and they'll end up in your carbs (I know!)
There's a nice L-shaped filter I found in the Dennis Kirk catolog that works perfect from the petcock to make that turn down to the carbs. It's clear too so you can see if it gets dirt particles in it.

yep, screen "sock" around the "straw" on the petcock inside the tank.
    Next to useless.
You definitely want to add an aftermarket filter in the fuel line from the tank to the carbs since there is another form of filtration. TINY screens located behind the float needle seats. These clog easily so best to never let them see and debris in the first place. Even the super cheap one's from the lawnmower aisle at the auto store go a long way.
