    Hi Guys

Im just after a few simple step I can take to find out why my bike wont start.

Its been sitting in my shed for a couple of months while I have been slowly painting the tank and fairing. It hasnt been a rush for me to complete it quickly cause I've had my honda to ride around on.

OK when i first put the tank back on and turned the petlock on fuel starting running down the side of the bike under the carbs on the brake side of the bike, I turned it off and took the tank back off and called a mate to come round have a look at it for me, as with all problems when he finally came around I put the tank back on and wouldnt u know it no fuel leak.

The bike still wont start, I have charged the battery full. When I go to start the bike you can hear the starter motor working and the engine kicking over but it wont fire.

Any ideas on some trouble shooting would be great.

Whats the best way to check for spark, remove one of the plus and kick the bike over and see if it sparks.

    Well thats the whole story.

I hope u guys can help.

    Thanks in advance

    Ok
I've done some reading in some other posts and I got a few ideas.
Anyway the bike dose spark (well i checked one plug not all I assume that if one is sparking they all are)
I have checked airflow. When holding my hand up to the air entry point under the seat and trying to start the bike I can feel air getting sucked in.
I have also tried starting the bike with the fuel cap off.

As the bike has been sitting for awhile could the exhaust be blocked and whats the best way of checking that short of sticking a broom up the exhaust pipe.

    Sounds like a fuel problem.
    Check your carb float height.

I would use an auxiliary bottle to eliminate petcock troubleshooting.

If its not float height then its plugged enrichment circuits.

If you are going to leave a bike sit for months with fuel in the bowls then that fuel better be stabilized.

You probably have varnish in your fuel bowls.

Let the bike sit with the petcock on prime for awhile.
If I haven't started mine in a week I have to let the bowls fill or it won't start, no matter how long you crank it.
If you spray starter fluid into the intake and it starts you have a fuel delivery issue

Spraying some auto start in the air filter box got the bike going.
I have tested the petlock and it works fine, I have also replaced the fuel filter.
It still wont run witjout using auto start.
What should I look for next.

Post a pic or two of the bike if you will. Your solution is almost for sure right here:
From the initial "leaking fuel all over" issue I too suspect a problem with float valves. You're gonna need to pull and clean the carbs. I'm betting varnished-up enrichment wells or a float issue.

    Hey guys
Just an update to my problem.
I have replaced the fuel filter and the hose that runs to the cards.
while i was at it I replaced all of the vacuum hoses as well.
Used a common Autostart brand here in Australia called "Start U Bastard" and off it went.
It starts and runs fine now but a problem I noticed when I went to start the bike this morning the battery was dead. The battery is less then 6 months old so i don't think it is faulty. I have the battery on charge and ill leave it charging all night so by the following morning i will see if it is dead again. My question to this is has anyone come across a problem before with something draining the battery even with the ignition off?
