86 Maxim X Side Covers

    Hello everyone. I have been the owner of a 1986 Yamaha Maxim X for the past 4 years. This is my first post on this forum.

    I have done a search just about everywhere including this forum looking for new left and right side covers. The ones with the x's on it. My bike now has a set of plastic chrome ones but the left side is cracked at the bottom. I have checked Yamaha but you cannot even order them. Any idea where I can get the originals? If no originals where can I get any?

    I think some people refer to this as the oil pump cover. There is one on each side.

    Welcome to the forum Thumper. You'll be very impressed with the level of knowledge the XJ community will have for you!!

    As for the side covers, Ebay would be a good starting point. I've got a favorite search set up to let me know when compatable parts show up for bid. I have an '85 XJ 700 Maxim X, so I know how hard it can be to find certain parts. 8O

    You might also try a post on the Sell/Swap/Trade forum as well. Somebody may have some specifics on where you can buy those covers aside from Ebay.
