    Hi listmates,

I want to sell my 86 XJ 700, along with a few accessories I've gathered but haven't installed.

Could I get advice on best practices for selling this type of bike? Obviously good pictures. Any rule of thumb on pricing an XJ appropriately?

It's in decent shape but I believe carbs need cleaning to get it started. Turns over well, though. Title clean.

Thanks in advance for any guidance!

I think most of us expect any bike we get needs a bunch of stuff, even if it's running. Always easier to sell a running bike as well. It can cost quite a bit to get the carbs all cleaned properly, not sure what to tell you there.
As an example, my bike was cosmetically OK and didn't run. I got it for $300 and put over $900 into it, and it still isn't great cosmetically, but I figure that'll be another $500+ next year. And still, it may not be worth what I have into it. But, I don't own the bike to sell it, I own it to ride it. At least I have a solid, reliable bike now.

I paid 500.00 for mine in good running condition when my brother bought a Harley. It had 18k miles on it when I bought it, and now has 37k. The only thing I have done is replace the windscreen - valve shims, added a luggage rack, and installed a high performance clutch. (and a couple sets of tires of course) It has never idled perfectly (very low idle at stop signs) It could use a paint job, but I bought it to ride and it runs like a raped ape. I'm just a 60 year old kid when riding :p
