A little extra boost, how safe?

My xj 750 is fast, alot faster than my Volvo 850 turbo, but I'd like to make it faster. I've been considering a 20 HP, wet shot of NOS. I would install an RPM window switch so that it would only kick in above 5 grand. Since the NOS will be injected with gas I don't plan on running lean. I plan on placing a 5 horsepower jet in the carb boot directly before the cylinder.

My concerns however, are how much horsepower can the bottom end, pistons and connecting rods etc. take? And also would 20 hp too much of a boost; could it possibly wheelie and launch me off?

I know I should just go out a buy a faster bike, or drop in a 900cc engine, however I can get the above mentioned kit for 200 including a bottle and it would be relatively easy to install.

You're the first person I've heard of to discuss doing this.

I'd be concerned with the All Aluminum Pistons being subject to the Hotter Mixture. I don't have any first hand information on what happens to the Internals on the Plastic Wrappers who regularly use NOS for added zoom.

I guess if you are in a hunt for the weakest link ... that would be the Aluminum castings in the Universal Joint at the front of the Drive Shaft.
If that U-Joint is designed for (X hp @ X ftlbs of torque) ... suddenly going to (X+Y hp @ X+Y ftlbs torque) ... could very easily cause the U-Joint to fail.

Sounds like a good deal. I think your bike would handle it, but the Turbo tends to suffer from clutch slip, so you might expect some of the same with a shot of nitrous.
