Anyone care to give me a quick crash course in adjusting the idle? It will not idle without choke. Runs beautifully otherwise. So i am thinking the idle is just set too low.

I just got the bike and I'm not very familiar with it.

There should be a knob between carbs 2 and 3 that you turn to adjust the idle. It is a royal pain to reach sometimes. You wan to set your idle when the bike is warm. If you set it while cold it will idle way too high once warm.

    In is higher idle.

Thanx for the response bill...which direction should I turn it to increase the idle?

Idling NEEDING Choke won't be corrected by the Idle Adjustment Rod.

Turn the Idle Adjustment Rod IN (Clockwise) to Open the Throttles.
    RPM,s will increase.

If you aren't able to Idle without Choke ... The Pilot Mixtures are Too Lean.

    Lets diagnose the situation:

    Pull Plugs
    Place lined-up ... 1,2,3,4,
Take CLOSE-UP photo of Business ends of Plugs
    Post picture
Be sure the Photo has good light and focus.

Plugs are brand new, I just put them in. I'm thinking that the idle circuits are dirty. I'm hoping that over time enough Seafoam will clean them out. I know that's a lot of hoping, but I just want to get it through the season. I'll pull the carbs off and give them a good cleaning over the winter. I will be heading out for the day here in a bit and don't have time to pull the plugs, But I'll do that tomorrow and get ya the pics. For what it's worth though I do know that it IS firing on all four.

The question is not about them firing on all four ...

The question is how well the Mixture that IS firing is adjusted.
If the Plugs stay Clean ... that's not good.
If they get dark and foul ... also, ... not good.

Adjusting the Mixture to a precision mixture so you don't need Choke, ... that's what we need to do.
Knowing how they are firing right now, ... tells us what to do.

I didn't realize until after I posted them that they were so dark. I've already cleaned the plugs and reinstalled them...they were pretty sooty. #1 was the worst 2 and 3 were dark but close to looking normal and #4 was not quite as bad as #1
