So I went for a ride, actually a couple of rides.

And my bike wasn't feeling right. Sat weird, rode weird, just felt off. It had been down for a few weeks so I thought it was me and rode it hoping to get my feel back.

Then I noticed my tire was wearing out, which pissed me off as it's my 2nd new tire, ((1st went down to a pinhole leak)) and only has 2000 miles on it.

Went for a ride to the coast yesterday, beautiful, and then as the group was hanging in the shade at the end-meeting spot, I noticed even more tire wear. Wondered if something was rubbing and started to investigate....

Yeah, that ain't good. Broke my rear shock mount on the swing arm and it was pushed back into my tire.

Tried to limp it home but started pumping some serious smoke, pulled over again and called for a tow....

Scary thoughts,,, Had just been over 115mph with it like this

Had done 400+ miles in 3 days with it like this...........

    Anywho

So Gonna get a new rear swing arm... and I am going to do the bearings too...

Any other parts I should replace or have on hand for when I get it all apart? I hate having to wait another 4-6 days for a small lil part that I could have ordered when I ordered the major ones...?????

    Thanks

    Koi

    Yikes

    No...yikes x3

There are no parts you need to get other than the new swingarm. Unless you break something else, that is. ;) Make sure to check and lube the swingarm bearings real well.

Installation is the reverse of removal, but you probably know that.

The swingarm didn't "just" break; it broke because it was rusted through.

That bike must have sat outside for quite a while.

I strongly suggest you probe about on the FRAME in all of the "lower sections" and be sure there isn't a section of the frame about to do the same thing.

Yeah Fitz, was going to do a major tap-test on the frame when I had it up/taken apart to see if there was any other rust on the bike...

It was a San Francisco bike with plenty of salt water in the air so I'm not suprised.

Thanks andrew, yeah, I looked and looked at it and all I can think of is the bearings, and the swing arm, everything else should be just swapped over w/o problems. Just would hate to get into it and realize i should have gotten some stupid little bolt which geographically is 6 or more days away from my location.
