    Hi,

I got a new bike! woo!

its an XJ750 1981, from Australia. I'm in Australia, so that makes sense.

The last bloke who had the bike swapped the brake master cylinder to something non-standard, and the sight glass only has another 100 braking episodes in it until it explodes in a furious squirt of glass shards and brake fluid. I can't get back in touch with the previous owner, so don't know what the master cylinder was off.

So, I either need to ID the master cylinder, or figure out what kind of sight glass and sight-glass system to change it with.

The bloke a the local bike shop told me I would have no chance ever finding out anything and what I ought to do would be to figure out the bore in the piston and buy a $70 after-market master cylinder.... Is my life worth so little? I am mildly afraid of that...

Any ideas or comments on this? (I would be receptive to suggestions of good quality aftermarket master cylinders...)

Photos attached, including a pic of the bike in its current state. Which is decent.

TL;DR I need to change the sight glass, but don't know what glass to buy...

Any Yamaha master cylinder with 5/8 bore should work. Xj650rj seca will work.

The master cylinder you have now has the correct bore size (it's that 5/8 that's cast into it). Chacal has sight-glass replacements, and they are available elsewhere too (made from watch glass).

The fella you're talking to over there wants to sell you the stuff that he has, which would solve your problem, but not in the best way for you.
