Aftermarket Master cylinders

    Anybody know of a fairly inexpensive master cylinder for an 82 maxim 750? Unfortunately I can't afford a new one right now and am not too sure about my rebuilding ability ;). I did the carbs (haven't put them back on the bike to try them yet though, getting rdy to bench sync them), are the MC's more or less difficult than a carburetor? Thanks in advance =)

    P.S.- Also, my dad mentioned that he thought the nut holding the fuel filter in may rotate in the opposite direction of what is normal. So, I feel kinda dumb asking this but does it rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise for removal?

    This looks like a nice little unit. That, or maybe Chacal has some nice rebuilt ones available.

    I got my master cylinder from that guy from ebay it works and looks very nice. I feel as if I stolen it from him :)

    The twin-disc master cylinder from PartsNMore is a good unit.

    It's not clear to me what part you are referring to when you mentioned Fuel Filter.
    Take a pic of it and Post it with your next response.

    If you can't find a Master Cylinder ... I am sure that you and your Dad could install a Rebuild Kit in the one you got without too much difficulty.

    One of the MOST IMPORTANT things you need to have is a Workshop Manual.
    I'd like you to invest in a Manual.
    You and your Dad will be glad you did!

    Ok...Now I feel really dumb....fingers typed fuel filter while brain was thinking oil filter. Oil filter is what I was actually referring to. *sigh....sorry....been up since 4 a.m.

    Also....I have the haynes manual as well as the original service manual (pdf file on a disc I bought before I knew about you guys with xjcd) :D I just am not one of the "mechanically inclined". lol

    The Oil Filter Bolt is not reverse threaded.
    Oil Filter Bolts that have not been treated with an AntiSeize compound can be very stubborn to remove.

    Use a "6-Point" Socket or a Combination Wrench with a "6-Point Boxed end"

    You should really try to rebuild your master cylinder yourself you can save some bucks, if you tackled the carbs, then the master cylinder should be a snap. The only difficult part was getting out the "c" clip from out of the housing where the break lever actually presses on the plunger. However if you grind down the tips of an old pair of needle nose plyers, the problem is solved. There are a few threads on this fourm that describe just what needs to be done, some even have pictures. I just did mine about a week ago, and I'm a poor wrencher, when you get right down to it.

    An inexpensive pair of snap ring pliers (90 degree bent nose) are all you really need as far as tools go to do this job yourself. It isn't hard and your dad will undoubtedly know how to proceed if you have the Haynes.
