    Hi,

I have acquired a 1992 model XJ600 Diversion. When I took the tank off to get to the carbs I noticed the airbox was loose. I just thought the clamps hadn't been done up. When I came to reassemble it it won't go on.

The carb top is 48mm in diameter and the airbox trumpet ID is 45. The box is labelled 4br. Has this bike got the right size carbs on?

    Thanks

Welcome to the forum. By any chance, can you post some pics of what you got going? The "Carb top" being 48 mm. Are you saying the Top hats on the carb. Need to measure the opening going to the air box, not the top of the carb. Getting the boots from the air box to the rear of the carbs takes some talent. Comes with time working on them, and I would also recommend some type of heat gun to help make the rubber a little more flexible and easy to work with. If the boots have been off for a long time, they may have deformed and will need a little extra TLC to be put back on the intake of the carbs.

If the air box loose in the frame? Check to see if the box is missing any bolts that hold it in place when you get the boots hooked to the carbs. That will help keep the air box in place.

Hmm, I'd like to think the poster would have measured the right flange of the carb, it is quite obvious after all.
I wrote a long sentence on the fj, XJ, radian carbs, then realized you have a Diversion, which is way different, with semi downdraft carbs (inlet is actually "at the top").
Maybe try fitting them with a heat gun to see how you get on? The only real way of knowing if they're correct is to measure the diameter of the butterfly opening (engine side of the carb). The diversion is not a model covered by this forum, so unless there is an expert on them here, you are out of luck I'm afraid.

    Hi,

Since I posted the above, I know a little more.

The venturi in the carbs is 26m as I have read. I took the carbs off the engine, to find the pilot screws, I couldn't see them. The engine side boots go straight on without a problem.

There seem to be 2 types of air box boots. Those with, what appears to be a restrictor, and those that are just, round like any pipe. I have the ones that are not pipe like.

The 48mm is the diameter across the top of Mikuni carb inlet. 45mm is the ID of the boot.

I boiled them as suggested elsewhere, and could push one one briefly. The boot carb side boot wAS

    Hi,

    Thanks for your replies.

"Minimutly" (saza, faza, raza, Dastardly, he he he, want medal). I did not realise this forum is pre-diversion.

I am getting another airbox from a breaker this weekend. I will measure the boots before I buy.
