air box

    I have a hard time getting the airbox mounted back on the carbs any ideas whats wrong.

    You are fighting 25 year old rubber carb to airbox boots, that someone measured against new as being 1/4 inch SHORT !!
    You should have these boots mostly retracted into the airbox.
    You can make a tool to help from a car antenna and bend the end over 90*
    Do all the pushing, shoving and twisting with the airbox "loose" unbolted from the frame.

    Thanks it was a pain in the butt. Boots dont look like they are all the way on carbs. I'm thinking about getting pod air filters and getting rid of the box all together.

    what bike do you have? i have a set of 4 pod filters that will fit an xj550 maxim with less than 200 miles on them i could sell you. pm me if interested.

    You're opening a can of worms if you throw pods on there. Re-jetting is not fun with pods.

    just a thought about pods would rather keep air box but it is a pain in the you know what.

    i remember a thread a while back where somebody mentioned that they used plumbing coupling to replace their old airbox boots and that it was alot more pliable than oem ones, not to mention less than $4 a piece.

    The boots on my XJ are a dream compared to the ones on my Kaw. Talk about a PITA!
