air filter question

    so i took out my airfilter to see how dirty it was and cleaned it out for temp use til i get a new one, i noticed there was a layer of the sticky substance all the way around it like a gasket but it wasnt sold. just wanted to know what this is and if i just need to completely replace the airfilter now since i broke the seal that the substance had on it.

    i still dont know what that ring around it is that is in between the airfilter and the airbox
