Hi all, I have a 82 XJ750 seca and noticed the air filter is foam and not paper. Does anyone know what type of filter this is and should I replace it with a paper filter. Also the filter is the half moon type can someone tell me which way this is suppose to go in. Does not want to stay upright enough to get the cover on the top.

    It could be a washable-reusable no-name filter.
The one I got from Chacal ( HCP 1222 ) is paper and seems to be able to install either way. If it doesn't fit right, maybe you have the wrong filter?

By either way do you mean vertical or horizontal.

I snapped this when I was taking stuff apart on my bike for the first time.

I don't know about Secas, but it sounds like your filter is the same shape as this paper one.

Mine as shown in the pic had a gap between the filter and airbox. When I replaced it, I was able to carefully close the airbox lid while holding the filter in place and when fully closed, the lid holds the filter in the correct position. Open the lid and the filter tilts back a bit.

If you have a foam filter it's probably reusable. I'm sure you'll be able to find instructions for washing and reoiling it, I've never had one.

I've picked up that rejetting is sometimes necessary when changing from/to paper and foam filters or pods, so if your bike is running ok I wouldn't mess with it other than cleaning if it needs it.

I have a UNI foam filter that fits perfect.
the UNI is 5 1/2 X 3 3/4 plus short tabs. It's "C" shaped and when installed you see the short surface.

The other one (HCP1222) is for my 900 as it turns out.

That is the one I have UNI foam filter, 5 1/2 x 4 1/4" I would;d prefer a paper filter never did like the foam. It's a mess to clean and oil. Why don't your new filter fit? To small, to big.
