hey one suggestion i have a friend that had the same problem and took duck tape and tapped half of the pods up. so you might want to try that and see how she runs, if she runs good and you want to keep it that way fine but if you dont want the duck tape you need to bump up the jet sizes.

Check all your cables make sure their not stuck as well as the pivot points. Make sure your choke cable is secure at the carbs. As for the last post I made an intake out of pvc pipes that uses one pod for all the cylinders using 2- 90bends, 1- t, and one 4way pipe. If you want I can send you some pictures. Hope you get your answer.

    AMCWood,

I've done the same thing using Gas pipe...show me how you did yours using PVC. Mines is like a cold air intake...Im getting ready to use a uni 1' pod filter instead of the 3' cold air intake filter. Will that PVC melt or get soft if by the engine?

Pvc should be fine to use for an intake like he described.

Not that we are exactly discusing it but never use pvc for turbo applications. The heat from the turbo can cause it to melt on the inside and release chloride gas. I dont know the effects on the engine of it but i cant imagine it'd be good for it.

I do thank you all for the help but would like some more tech help . youkon 1015 you said to rejet but do you know what set up to use ie:jet size. AMCWood the carbs have rebuilt to stock specs and the cables are all lubed and run clean with no kinks or sharp bends. Can any one tell me if there is any old posts I can read as this topic may have been dicusted. Thanks again and keep the advice coming.

On my 81 650 I'm running pods and a 4-into-1 exhaust. I have 41 pilot jets and 122 mains. I am not dialed in yet, but it's running pretty good. Still have some tweaking. I'd say to bump the pilot to at least a 41 and buy 118's 120's and 122's for the mains, then experiment. Right now my pilot mixture screws are all in the 3-1/2 turns out range.

If it's starting hard, clean the enrichment circuits in the bottoms of the carbs. There is a brass tube that extends down into a passage way in the bowls. If you spray carb cleaner down into that hole, it shoud come out the other end of the tunnel into the bowl. That's where the engine gets it's gas when the "choke" is on.

I'm running pods on my 81 650. The exhaust is stock (with a slight leak on #4 at the muffler). I've tried running the stock carbs, rejetted with 41 Pilots and 120 mains. I had horrible issues with starting. I also had holes in the powerband. Not to mention, it was pig rich no matter what adjustment I used on the pilot. I have since installed 750 carbs. They have larger air jets and differently tapered needles. I'm currently running 40 pilots and 116 mains. Now I'm able to get it started on the first or second try. The motor idles great. Power at full throttle is alot better than prior setup. All of the hesitation and any holes in the power band are gone. The only thing I have a problem with is my fuel milage. I'm only averaging 36mpg on the highway (70mph). I'm sure it could be a lot better. I'm guessing I have my fuel level floats set too high. But that's yet another tweak I'll have to attempt when time allows.
