Hi, need a disc rotor to finish up my long term restoration of an XJ900N. I have located 2 out of the 3 in original parts but the final right hand front disc is proving difficult. Dealer just gives me the old "sorry mate, NLA, buy a new bike". Well I don't want a new bike. I want to finish off all the work I have done on this one.

Is anyone aware of an alternative pattern supplier, or source of one of these discs (31A-25831-01)? I am in Australia, but doesn't matter, willing to pay freight, if one doesn't show up here in Aus.

In meantime will keep scouring Ebay.

    Cheers. Scott J

Have you tried "chacal" here on XJBikes? The guy is VERY dependable and usually has darn near everything for our XJ bikes. I know that he ships in your direction, there are quite a few Ozzys that have ordered from him and, crow about his fast shipping. I can attest to the rapid shipping as well, I live in Portland Oregon (West Coast) and he ships from Atlanta Georgia (East Coast) and I normally get my orders within 3 days. Check out the Buy, Trade, Sell & Swap section of the forum for his list of parts.

    Cheers
    Ken

You don't need to email him, you can PM him directly from the site. He's on everyday checking out the requests for parts. He even has a link at the top left of the page XJ4EVER that I forgot to mention in my prior post. Definitely check him first for prices as well. The guy is also a wealth of knowledge when it comes to exactly what you are trying to accomplish on your bike. I got almost everything for my total re-build from him on my bike. If there was ever any questions about what I got or, how to install it chacal was "johnny on the spot!" with an answer. The only item that stands out that I had a hard time getting were my piston rings, I found a place in Phoenix Arizona that had substitutes that worked quite well (XJ700N's were only made 2 years & no one picked up that part aftermarket).

Almost forgot to Welcome you to the site! This place helped me out more than you can imagine!

    Cheers again
    Ken

You may end up going with aftermarket rotors if the original is truly NLA. That or eBay. The EBC aftermarket rotors are REAL nice full floaters but change the appearance of the front of the bike:

The best part about the EBCs is they cost about half as much as the stock ones IF you can even find the stock ones.
I got mine from chacal, his price was better than anywhere I've found.
The rotor comes with the hub "natural" the one in the pic was painted.

Thanks bigfitz, Have since discovered can get aftermarket one locally for $215 Australian with pads, so will probably go with this rather than get flogged on the exchange rate and postage etc. Will probably end up with one disc on front drilled (a/market) and one original. Doesn't matter, not a show bike.

I can see that I am going to become hopelessly addicted to this site as I go about this rebuild over next few months. Still have both front and rear brakes to fix, nuetral switch replacement, new camchain, shims etc etc. There will be many questions. Thanks again. Scott J

Hi scotty, if you.re in Aus,go to ebay.com.au .enter xj900 and you will find an after market disc for $99.95,with $11.95 postage, to suit your bike That s a lot cheaper than $200 plus .

    Cheers ,Murray

I would imagine that there is a weight savings with the EBC caliper too isn't there?

It really does look a lot better than stock! Very nice!

other then part numbers, is there a difference between the two rotors?

i've had two bikes with two rotors and they both looked like they could be mounted on either side.

The stock rotors are "directional" because of the shape/orientation of the cooling slots cut into the disc or the hub...........

Good to know, all around parts support is decent for our antique scooters.

The EBC rotor in my pic came drilled.

Some 80s Yamahas came with slotted rotors, I don't recall any of the 80s bikes coming with drilled rotors.

Almost all bikes come with drilled rotors these days; you can also get an original rotor drilled (as long as you start with one that's in good shape.)

It's not just for looks, it does help cut down on brake fade in high-speed braking situations. (80-0 on the freeway.)

    Hello Scotty,

Your front rotors are probably the same as mine. Picture attached.

When mine wear out I'm thinking about these wave rotors from s3performance.com.au They are in Melbourne, and only $99.95.
