I've been talking for awhile about putting ammoboxes on my bike for carrying all the junk i require for long trips. Well here it is. They went on fairly easily using U-bolts around the luggage rack and into the box. I have alittle more tweeking to do to get it just right. These things hold a butt load stuff.

My worry was that the muffler points up toward the bottom of the box and I don't don't want melted stuff at the end of a ride so I took it for quite a long ride and found the bottom of the box to be quite cool. So, no worries.

I'll take some "nut and bolt" pics and put them up if anyone who is thinking about doing the same thing.

The bad is that they are not easily taken off or put on. It would take maybe 10 minutes to do each.

    Merry Christmas

    Nice

I would like to see how your rear rack is attached to the bike, please.

I have a flat rear rack without supporting arms that I would like to fit to my '83 Maxim 750. Any pics would be most helpful. I will make supporting arms/brackets

Specifically the 4 mounting points on the bike for the horizontal rear rack.

    Thanks & Merry Christmas

Instead of black you should paint them silver or leave them bare metal and they would look like the expensive European ones I see on BMW's all the time!

20mm by the looks of those Altus. I've got one or two floating around somewhere. Never did find a use for them. To big for tools (you would break your back if you filled it) and they don't fit on my 12" shelves. I am inspired by Buffalo's work however...

I thought of using the smaller ammo boxes on my bobber project and painting the entire bike OD green. It would deffinetly give the bike an Army theme and turn some heads....but then I woke up!!!

Yes, they are 20 mm ammo boxes. You can pick them up at most any army surplus shop for well under $20. I think I paid 12.50 for these.
Thats good idea about the silver paint but I kinda like the flat black, although, if they were silver they might not get hot in the sun. When I put them on the weather was about 40 degrees but I'm sure they might get warm in the sun.

I thought about putting the smaller boxes on and even bought some but they are way too small. I like to take long trips so I need the extra room. I've been looking for a large military box to replace the rubbermaid box on the top but haven't found on.....yet.

In the next few days I'll take a few more pix and put them up to show a little more detail of how I attached the boxes.

The next project is to build a compact PC for the bike with a 7 inch touch screen for an interface. I do alot of back road exploring and haven't found a GPS unit under $2000 that gives me the info that my PC software does. There are a couple of PCs for cars on the market fro well under a grand. But thats another several months down the road

If anyone has any experience with the car PCs let me know what you think about them.

Sorry to bring an old thread back to life, but any chance you could take some photos of how you mounted that Great_Buffalo? Thanks!
