I am about to purchase new tires for my 1983 maxim xj650cc and I wanted to know what is the widest front and rear tire I can place on the bike without any cutting, welding, etc. I have the Haynes book and already know the OEM standards for tires. I have search through out the threads and they are endless and I have not found the answer to my question, maybe someone has traveled into the unknown and found something that works.

Well, whatever info would greatly be appreciated.

Without changing the wheels, you can run a 100/90-19 front and go up one width on the rear (130 to a 140 I believe but not sure) and that's it. Any bigger and stuff starts to rub.

Thanks Fritz, I just purchased a set of Shinko 130/60/-16 rear and 100/90-19 for the from "bike bandit," great prices!!!

Maybe later I will do a front end swap with a R1 or R6 for a wider front tire. Both for now the OEM standards will do just fine.
