I bought a XJ700 in similar shape, but with about 10,000 miles, and paid $1300. hoped everything was ok, but so far I've spent about 3 months and probably about $600 getting it in good running shape. Carbs rebuilt, brakes, valves, fork seal, etc. So, $1400 is just the beginning for bikes this old. if you can't or don't want to do the work, it could get expensive. Except for the forks I've done all the work. But it's a hell of a ride when running well.

I'd say a grand is where I would be happy at. However it's pretty rare to find a bike with that few miles. She's hardly broken in!

But you would still have to do all the usual maintainence items before getting her back on the road. It's by no means "new"

Wow....that's pretty nice. I bet there's NOT much neglect on that one. It has OBVIOUSLY not been left outside, and the miles are incredibly low. If it's been that long, you're gonna wanna replace tires, service the complete brake assembly, replace the battery, replace oil and filters, clean the tank and fuel system, and do a thorough rebuild of the carbs. While you're at it, do an upgrade of the fusebox to blade-style fuses. Do all those things, you have a NICE NICE ride, and if you detail it, you'll have a potential show bike on your hands.

If you CAN get the price down a bit, that would be great. Take a wad of cash, make a lower offer and show him the green.......even if he says nope--- flash the cash and keep it in front of him for a bit. sometimes the seller just needs to drool long enough to change his mind. If he adamantly refuses, then you will have to decide if you want to puke up the rest of the cash or not.

If you do get it, then we are all here to help you do the bike justice.

    Keep us posted!

Looks all original, so you're looking at about $600~$800 in PARTS to make it SAFE and rideable. Brakes, tires, hoses, rubber parts, carb parts, chain and sprockets, etc., etc., etc...

Despite the low mileage, with all the work that will need to be done to a "pristine" example like that--- I wouldn't go over $1000. And plan to drop another $600 or so into it, minimum.

Do that, and you'll have a brand-new 30+ year old bike to ride for less than $2000. Looking at it that way, it's well worth it.
