I picked up a new to me 85 700 Maxim X. I'm sending the carbs off for a vacation at the spa for some rejuvenation in the mean time I'd like to treat the fuel tank to Por 15 system, or may call some radiator shops to see if they have a reasonable method for sealing.

The trouble is I removed the petcock and tank from the bike, but after removing the screws to what I believe to be a fuel sensor in front of the petcock, it won't come off.

Is it suppose to? Any tricks, need to know info, etc?

    TIA
    Steve

There is no trick it is just stuck. Once you get it to break loose, it just comes right off. Tap it lightly with a rubber mallet or something soft after dousing with P.B. Blaster or significant penatrant.

Thanks for the info, I had to use the PB to help in removing the two screws for it. Didn't want to use my caveman instinct and damage something trying to remove it.

While you have it out, don't forget to double check the solder joint on the single wire to the back of the sensor. I have had to resolder mine twice already. I am not sure if it is a vibration problem or not but it pops the wire right at the begining of the solder.
