Not a lot of magazines around that focus on the bikes of the '60s, '70s and '80s. So when Mitch Boehm of Motorcyclist magazine announced he was going to publish a magazine that did just that, he got my attention. I have been a suscriber to Motorcyclist magazine for a long time but lately I find myself just thumbing through an issue. Just not that much there to interest me. But every page of Moto Retro Illustrsted has my undivide attention. It's not as inexpensive as the other mags but for me it's worth it.
My 2¢. Now, do you have a favorite magazine?

looks interesting i like the old stuff. I recently got a subscription to motorcyclist for free I do not find it very interesting . $14 for a back issue is pretty steep. but $40 a year is not that bad

Did they ever get the publishing schedule worked out for Retro? Last year I'd heard they were to begin printing in late spring, then early summer. some people on another forum were complaining that it had already folded and only issued one issue....seemed like a great idea but seemed like the actual production was a mess.

I'd heard that they were to be printed on very high quality paper instead of regular rag and to be issued every 2 or 3 months but the initial costs were so high that the parent company pulled the plug just as it was getting off the ground.

I went to the website and under back issues, they list 3 (for $10.95ea) which would be about right for a quarterly issue.

Sooooo, can anyone clue me in as to what the real deal is? Are they sending out issues on a regular basis?

Yes, problems resolved. The first attempt was called Motorcyclist Retro. Motorcyclists' publisher pulled the plug because of the uncertainty of the economy. They mainly wanted their resources to go towards what was already making them money(sportbikes). Mitch was determined because he knew there was a great interest in reviving and preserving the older bikes (Thank you boomer generation) so he invested his own savings to privately launch Moto Retro Illustrated. Currently it's published quarterly with plans to go 6x year. The size is 9"x11" on high quality paper (more like a book than a magazine) 100 pages and shipped in a poly jacket. Any new venture, especially one of this magnitude has a few hiccups along the way and Mitch will be the first to tell you about his. As a matter of fact he always does so by keeping everyone posted, on facebook, about the progress of each issue. So if an issue is taking longer than planned to get to press he lets everyone know. I've always received every issue and definitely worth the wait. Mitch does a wonderful job on the interviews with the legends, like Kenny Roberts for example. I'm personal friends with Phil Bonner the drag racing legend (Daddy Warbucks) so I know how important it is to these people to get it right. This magazine is definitely worth a look!
Kriminy! Reading back s'over this I sound like a bloody salesman. Sorry! Not my intent.

No, you don't sound like a salesman, but someone who's trying to inform someone who only knew part of the story....me! I guess that makes you Paul Harvey....with.........yup, you know it's coming......THE REST OF THE STORY!!

Thanks for clearing it up for me. Yes, I'll put my 40 bucks up for that. I've always enjoyed Mitch B's writing, even if it WAS a little dirtbike inclined. Yeah, the old guys that were there do want it told correctly especially since there are so many so called "experts" rewriting history these days. I'm sure your friend blows two or three gaskets everytime he reads some race that he knew he won, but reads that he placed second.

I know that 20 TZ's is waay too many for any one person to own and that the guy should give me just one of them<LOL>
