At any given speed, what RPM?

At any given speed, in any particular gear, where do you like to keep the RPM's?

You know, for charging, keeping it in the powerband, not lugging it, etc. Where were these bikes designed to operate.

(In our case, the bike is an '85 FJ600)

Over 4 grand. You can "troll along" at 3K or 3500, in town; and accelerate away from that range without downshifting, but not quickly.

Anything over 4 grand and it will have a lot more pull; serious grunt comes in at 6 grand all the way to redline.

"Happy" cruising speed is around 5K-5500. (Actually anything between about 4500 and 6500.)

(All of this assumes the bike is functioning 100% and tuned properly.)

In this case, I'm speaking from XJ550R experience, and the bikes are very similar.

I run 3600rpm when i'm cruising doing 80km/h 4100rpm if i'm doin 90. I love this 750, i don't have to really downshift to get er going, i kinda scared myself last night after a stop.

Figured i'd let her run to redline through a couple gears, cause i was granny'n it all day. After hitting 9k in second and shifting to 3rd i looked down and saw i was going 110km/h or so and went, "HOLY CHRIST" lol that was like 4 seconds from the stop.

The front fairing on this thing buzzes all to hell over 4.5k rpm so i've been babying her, and i'm trying to get an average on how far i can go per tank.

3-4 is where i like in town. on freeway it don't matter.

my vtwin only has 4 gears. it runs around 3k around town. doesn't hit 4th gear untill 55. pretty much same gearing just like a 4speed autumatic car transmission. it's nice not to put so much wear and tear on a motor from higher rpms.
