    Ok a buddy has a 87 Yamaha Venture Royale. It is back firing BUT when he applies a little bit of choke it stops. Any ideas? I think a carb sync is in order. No loose exhaust connections. Plugs are a nice tan. what do you experts think? Oh yes and it only does it when the bike is out of gear, coasting as they say.

    vacuum leak maybe, check the hoses and little rubber caps.
    before i take carbs off i open the bowl drains and catch the gas in a clean glass jar to see if any crap comes out.
    come to think of it, do those have carbs? i got no idea

    Yes they do and it easy to check. They have tubes that come out to the sides, two on either side of the block. You can access the fuel/air mixture settings and you can access the carb drain screws from the sides. It's a lot easier then with the XJ and Secca set up. The carbs are mounted in a square and the carb intake is on the top and the manifold is on the bottom. Fantastic setup to work on.
    And thanks for the input I'll pass it on.

    ::: Stops back-firing when Enrichment added :::

    Air Leaks.
    Too Lean.
    Tight Intake Valves.

    That's where I'd go looking, ... first.
