    pulled carbs off rack
    components completely disassembled/ sorted
dropped two carb bodies to soak in some castrol superclean
in the morning fish out two blackened, corroded carb bodys; realize it pays to read chemical directions

haha my bad. Heres what they look like after spraying out with carb cleaner and buffing on corrosion with 400 wet/dry and wd40. still chalky, corrosion keeps reappearing but might just take more scrubbing. guessing after that overnight digestion, at best they'll be rust prone, at worst threads stripped and passages clogged. is this treatable or two new carbs? live and learn i guess.

As long as you can get all passages cleaned out, the exterior can always be polished.
Get it blown clean with beads.

On the other hand, those carbs look perfect for a rat build. Haha!

Soda blasting would probably do it just fine

Always read directions with any chemicals. The results can be hazardous.

I re-read your original post; they won't rust that would require a ferrous metal which they're not.

You might want to think about soaking in vinegar, or Pine-Sol, to "neutralize" the effects of what you originally soaked them in.

But I would figure out exactly what that was first, chemical-wise.

Thanks a bunch for the tips. Boiled both in vinegar/water mix for a half hour. didn't take off the corrosion, but between that and the carb cleaner, the superclean should be pretty well flushed hopefully.

know of a DIY soda blast process, or would I be looking for a place with a blast tank?

+1 on reading directions. Noted that the active ingredient in superclean was xylene, and that was all the more thought put into it. not the results i was expecting.

that white stuff is just the nature of cast aluminum it'll be there till you get some oil on it
the carbs are probably clean but you need to get in the passages to get that white stuff out
a rinse with some atf or mmo and gas or kerosene will stop it from coming back
something like this shines the outside nice with a dremel tool

i tried one of those soda rigs, perfect for cleaning nickles but to do 4 carbs, you'll be there a long long time and everything for 50 feet will be white
