Dont use wire wool, paint stripper to remove any laquer, then depending on how bad the cases are, 240 then 360, 400, 600 grit wet & dry, then start buffing. I always have the whole mill soda blasted so you have a clean start.

If you really want it to shine ... do some research about the various finishes you could achieve having the plant "Media Blasted"

Glass, Plastic Beads, Walnet Shells and other forms of Media will bring-out the nice bright alloy and apply varying degrees of a finish to the aluminum.

I'm assuming auto body shops offer the media blasting service? I need this done to my next project. It has a very oxidized motor. It's going to take a lot of elbow grease to sand this baby.

Any idea on what they charge to do a motor?
