I was just wondering what was the best solution to soak nasty carbs in. I was going to soak them in vinegar 'thinking it isn't as harsh as petroleum based cleaners' I've got all the rubber out I think? Is there any rubber on the butterflies? anyways what would ya'll recommend.

If they have stuff that needs to be cleaned-out of places where gas has evaporated and left behind that Dark Brown Death ...

Or if the Carbs have been sitting for years and you know vital passageways are clogged with bullet-proof residue ...

See if you can get them into a UltraSound Tank.

Naw Rick no clogged passageways just super dirty on the outside. I used your carb cleaning guide and every passageway is open just super dirty on the outside is all.

I use Berryman's B12 or Brake cleaner in a spray can with a tube. Works great. There is rubber along the butterflies known as throttle shaft seals and also between the carbs to seal the fuel tubes. The carbs have to be removed from the rack to remove all rubber parts. I wouldn't trust them to vinegar.

    Carb Cleaner and Elbow Grease.

    Parts Cleaning Brush
    Tooth Brush
Long-handled, wooden, Artist Brush (A split second at the grinder and you have a pointed, wooden, scraper -- on the end)

I use an artist brush and carb cleaner as Rick described - worked like a charm. I put the carb body in a tray to collect the carb cleaner run off and I recycled it for scrubbing the bodies. When done, I rinsed the carb body off with fresh carb cleaner and an air compressor.

Nylon bore brushes, a retired toothbrush, Q-tips, toothpick, screwdriver/scraper for larger areas, your options are limited to your imagination. I also doubt that vingar will harm your rubber but you can use WD-40 without harming anything. A good aqueous cleaner (such as Castrol's Super Clean) is a great place to start without harming the rubber pieces as well. Follow-up cleaning can be done with alcohol or carb cleaner.

if a guy has a compressor, a cheap sand blast gun with walnut shells will clean
a lot of parts real fast real good without any chemicals
