I just purchased an extra xj650 motor as a spare. I want to be able to turn it over so i can lubricate the cylinders and valves so they don't stick and freeze up if i let it sit for a while (like one i had that had stuck rings for sitting for years), it didn't come with a stater or the pickup coil bolt on the end of crank. what suggestion do you recommend to be able to turn the motor over so the lubricant will coat the cylinders and valves, would you just pull the plugs and fill full of oil? I am assuming I can put a bolt on the end of the crank and use a wrench to turn over the motor. thanks for any recommendations to how to service this motor for long term storage.

you could engage a high gear & rotate the transmission.

Take the alternator cover off and use that bolt to turn the engine.
