This post is aimed at the inexperienced and new owners of group. I want you to be aware that there is a seller on Ebay that at best is incompetent and at worst a scammer. This seller is vintagebikeparts442 out of Lakeville MN. I have no beef with the guy(s), but they have put up for sale a few parts they claim came off a certain XJ 750. A good example was a swing arm that was obviously from a chain driven bike. The latest example is what they claim came off an 81 XJ 750, an oil pump. The item # is 130408764747, this part has no business inside an XJ 750! I have no idea what bike this part came from, I just know it didn't come from an XJ 750. I have written these people in the past and reported to them that parts were misidentified and now I find that I am blocked from the ask a question part of the site. If you are interested in a part form this seller, or any other seller you may find suspicious, come to us first and ask for our opinion, we won't steer you wrong.

Thanx for the heads up LV.
I will give them that at least they got the XJ part close. It looks to be a XJ550 oil pump.

The bigger problem is that there never was an "81 XJ750 Maxim". I seriously think it is more incompetence than anything else. I noticed a significant amount of mislabled items in the store section. Like the 83 XV700 parts section. Those are all XV750 virago parts. The 81 XJ750 Maxim parts are actually XJ550 Maxim parts

These are the kind of people that have made ebay a not so good place to deal for parts. Although, They have left themselves wide open for a not as described complaint.

I sent a couple messages to one of these "scavenger breakers" in Miami who was listing 550 chain-drive parts as XJ 650 stuff. No response, and they didn't correct the listing. Most likely too busy making money.

One of these guys bought a no-title Seca 900 for $300 that I just missed buying. I asked him how much for the whole bike after he listed some parts - - he wanted $2,000 !!

Mis-listed parts are a goldmine! WE need to know what we're looking for; we don't need (and can't rely upon) the seller to know what he has.

I got my 150-mph speedometer, BRAND NEW NOS, for $20 because it was mis-listed as being for an XJ750. People looking for an XJ750 speedo weren't bidding, because it was instantly recognizable as NOT for a 750.

I also got my spare turn signal cancelling unit (also NOS) for like $3.99 because it was only listed as being for an XV920R, and how many of those are out there?

If WE know what we're looking for, seller beware. And I kinda like it that way.

I LOVE mis-labelled/ mis-ID'd items! Like others here, I have gotten some pretty good things that way! :)

I'll totally agree that any noobs should check with us here, FIRST.

I used to be one that would contact people and let them know things were listed wrong until one day when I was able to find a nice mis-labeled item and decided I could use that to my advantage :)

Carry on, best of luck finding the "wrong" things....if I don't find them first. ;)

The big problem is "accidentally" finding a mis-labeled part.

Since Dave is looking for ALL kinds of parts he has a much better chance

He just searches for XJ and sifts through the 77,000 some odd parts to find what he needs

I got a tail and both side covers for a 550 Seca for $11 due to a mislisting. I sure wasn't complaining. It is funny when you see an xj650 motor listed as an xj550 and the seller calls you the idiot when you point out the shaft drive and chain drive difference between the two.

Our turn signal cancelling unit for instance, was used on the XS, XV, ZX, YX, FJ, FZ, and SR to name just a few.

Sometimes it pays to widen the search parameters to include "XV" "FJ" and "XS."

nah ive only bid a couple things on ebay and only ever won 2. I got outbid on everything else Iever bid on. sales end while I'm at work.
not to mention some of that stuff is way over priced. In my opinion anyway.
you ever see the USED needle and seat? I couldnt believe they even tried to sell that.
craigslist is even worse, at least around here.
