Can you stuff an 81 750 Maxim engine in a 81 650 Maxim frame?

Yeah it will bolt right in. Aside from bigger pistons they have very few differences.

    Thanks guys.
What won't fit? 1981 XJ650 Maxim frame. 1981 XJ750 Maxim everything else. The seat will mount differently. Fork sizes the same. Side panels won't fit, I guess. Back wheel? Will that fit? What about the airbox?

    It all fits.

There is an issue with shifting though. The 750 has a frame mounted shift linkage where on the 650 the lever mounts straight to the shift shaft. If you just stick a lever on the 750 the shift pattern is reversed and you need a really long foot to shift it.
