Ok I went for a ride today and i punched it and the bike felt like the rear end was slipping. So I thought the rear end gear splines we're going. But It seems to only slip in second(I think) I don't want to ride it to much to cause more damage. Could it also possibly be a bad tranny gear? If so I think a new motor would be easier and less expensive than splitting the cases to replace a gear. What do you guys think. When I get some time I'm gonna take the rear wheel off and look at the rear end. Also the bike has had issues popping out of 1st occasionally( but not very often only at high rev when doing wheelies). Thanx

If it only happens in second, I would guess it is in the trans. Depending on where you get your motor and for how much as well as how much you wrench more or less answers your other question.

For me, I would split the cases and just replace the one gear instead of the whole engine - but that's me.

Hopefully, it turns out to be something simple like output shaft backlash or something but I would think you'd slip in all gears in that scenario.

    Good luck.

You need to be real specific about what's happening with the bike.

Is is jumping out of gear and acting like its in Neutral ... or,

Slipping ... like it's trying to go forward with the engine revving-up higher and the bike going slow?

    Which???

Hmm oil or water on the rear wheel?? Him saying that it wiggles almost leads me to believe that the rear is breaking loose. Were you going thru water or is the tire brand new, could have been mold release on the rear tire.
Since you were in second gear, I wouldnt think that it would be the clutch slipping but its possible. But to be sure go out and ride it again and tell us what its doing, what gear, is the motor warmed up? could the oil be overfilled? What oil did you use, being specific on what type or manufacturer of oil.
One way to see if its the clutch find a nice open stretch of road and put it into 3rd or 4th gear starting with the revs low, then go WFO and if it starts slipping its the clutch. If its the clutch, it brings us back to the previous question of what oil did you use. Alot of the newer oils have friction modifiers in them. Great for cars but really bad for bike clutches which are sharing the same bath of oil. If there are friction modifiers in there, then of course the clutch will start slipping sooner.
If you have used the newer oil then you can try to drain out the old oil and try some without the friction modifiers. Everyone has there own favorites, my two are Shell rotella 15-40 and castrol gtx 20-50.
