Sounds like the Pilot Mixtures are just a tad RICH.

    Make a "Road Tweak Tool"

Take one of those small, CRAFTSMAN, screwdrivers ... the kind with the "Metal Pocket Clip" and fabricate yourself a "Tweaker"

Cut-off the plastic handle right down to the shank.
Grind-off half the business-end and grind a new "Pilot Screw fitting" end on it.
Take it with you and go ... Road Tweak.

Go someplace where you can do the tweaking.
An industrial park when everybody is gone for the day ... like that.

    Run some test runs.
Tweak - IN ~~> One eyelash at a time on all four -- each run.

You'll find the SWEET SPOT in short order.

OR use a short enough and small enough screwdriver like I do and you won't need to lift the seat, unless of course you have really big hands.

Must be more room to tweak on a 550.

The 2 and 3 Carbs on 750 have gas tank almost sitting on them.
Plus I do have big hands.
And I got stuck, bad, when I tried to tweak my idle and got my wrist watch snagged on the airbox beauty piece.

I got blisters on my knuckles to prove it!
