Well everyone said it was just a matter of time until I fell - 30 years licensed with a big gap so 7 or 8 yrs experience without so much as dropping one. 3500 miles in the last year.

So where does it happen? in the Experienced rider class today!!!

Leave it to me to crash in a safety class :D

The GOOD - I"M OK landed on my back and sore as anything.

The sort of BAD Broke the clutch lever, ruined my windshield, bent the case guard and nicked the engine fins. All fixable. - Got a clutch lever - took off the screen and finished the class.

We were doing figure 8s and I got too slow and very tight turning - touched the throttle and should have had the clutch feathered and boom over I went.

Knocked the wind out of me - had my leg trapped under the bike but of course a lot of help to get her off me.

Pictures when I'm up to it. Thought I'd share. I was very embarrassed  but I got over it.

I don't know about superstar - I have been fortunate and am cautious. Thing is a split second and a SMALL mistake and BANG.

Anyway ATGATT (All the Gear All The TIme) this happened at 1mph

Chris it was embarrassing. I went in knowing I didn't know everything but confident in my skills. Oh well thanks for the well wishes

Went to hospital this morning. I hardly slept and could not move without intense pain. They gave me some good drugs. Hope they help.

Any advice I give today may be suspect :D

    You bet -

mine was just a fall over - virtually no speed involved. I'm glad you were not hurt any worse. I'm surprised how much I hurt for a minor fall. Old age is not for the weak my friend.

I was in the same ERC class with bill and saw it all. In fact I was in line waiting to go next. Agonizing to see a friend take a fall like that, you watch it happen knowing you can't stop it. I was really alarmed. Scary part was it knocked the wind out of him (but we didn't know that at first...all we knew was he was having trouble catching his breath).

But I gotta take my hat off to bill. It takes guts to fix your bike in a few hours and then complete the rest of the course. I think I would have been done for the day.

Welcome to the club, Bill...it's about time you lost your virginity! Thirty years around bikes and you've never dumped one before? Clearly, you haven't been trying hard enough. :p
As you have unfortunately learned, speed isn't always the deciding factor when it comes to injuries. I've offed at 70 mph and walked away with scrapes and bruises, and broken bones in a first-gear crash. You just never know.
The moral of the story is: Take every second on two wheels seriously, never lose your concentration, always wear as much protective gear as you can, and expect to get hurt once in a while if you ride a motorcycle.
Heal quick, Bill, and let us know when you're riding again.

Well no pass or fail you just learn skills but I finished so I say yea I passed.

I started laughing about it fairly quickly. Things happen.

I appreciate the sympathy. I have mostly been a very cautious rider. As far as riding again I think will be a coule of weeks but I did finish the class and ride home :D

Well over a week later and I'm still laid up so no pics yet. Feeling much better but still can not sit upright or stand for long. Luckily I can work from home.

I have to assume I cracked my ribs (they don't do xrays anymore unless they suspect broken vs cracked since they just leave them heal).

I hit the bottom of my rib cage (from the back) racking my whole left side rib cage) Amazing how many folks have asked if I'm gonna sell my bike. The answer is always NO WAY I can't wait to get back on it!
